Big FLOWERS
Flowers have been a recurring theme in my art and I have at various times represented them in both painted and printed form. Whether it's the anticipation of an unopened lily bud, or the full face of a beaming sunflower, I am drawn to their beauty, character and intricacy.
Big Flowers is my latest series of limited edition hand-pulled silkscreen prints. The shapes, forms and delicate colours were a joy to draw and then represent in these big and bold artworks.
I created stencils from torn and cut paper and then applied overlapping translucent inks to capture the transparent delicacy of the petals. The artworks contain elements of variable monoprinting, resulting in each print in this very short run being subtly different and thus unique. Crocus, Primrose and Hydrangea include accents of metallic gold ink, which adds a sparkle as the light passes across.
